Midas designs for the Emperor

James Franco on General Hospital now constitutes performance art?  Don’t get me wrong, I like the Green Goblin just fine.  In fact, I’ve dug the guy since his stoner days on Freaks and Geeks.  But seriously – James, you can’t spin your paycheck into a gold-dusted dessert, just because you saw Marina Abramović do it once.

Then again, maybe you can.

Fame and cleverness seem to count for a lot these days.  After all, James, as you say in the article, “Performance art is enjoying a moment of validation from the art world establishment.”  And, as a friend of mine noted, that statement is truest when read as a definition.
